Thought for the day...

Leaving your cuppa tea on your work bench while sewing is a bad idea...I mean you can get away with it for years but then...one day... yep - that one day was today...

but that may have been how someone came up the "tea-dyed" materials idea...ha ha

Charli's Quilt

This is the first section of a quilt I am making for my grand daughter Charli. She is 3 years old and her Mum likes bright colours so I have used alot of bright fabrics on a background of pale pink and white.

The design is based on Patchwork Pumpkin (Frankston) Country Romance pattern with a few alterations to modernise it.
This is the second block (the first being the flowers along the top which you can see)

The third block I used the bowl of ice-cream pattern from one of the many quilting magazines I had lying around. And the doughnuts and coffee cup were cut out from material with those prints on them. I really wanted to add cupcakes but felt that it would crowd the design too much. Its quite a 'busy" quilt so the plain background help balance it.

The 4th block is hearts and stars.  Notice a couple of the small 2inch square blocks have a 1950 print from the Dick and Jane range. I have scattered them throughout to add some interest. I am also going to applique  the letters CHARLI around the quilt amoungst the small squares so she has a challenge to find the letters to her name.

And finally, here is the star - Charli with her Dad Kurt (my son). She is a 21 year old trapped in a 3yo body !!  Kids these days... ha

First Blog - I'm a late starter !!

My passion is designing and creating quilts and accessories using modern and/or vintage fabrics. I love reading other peoples blogs about their journey of making each quilt and I thought I would give it a go.
